Railwaymen

London and South Western Railway
This British railway company originated from the opening of the London to Southampton Railway in 1838, developed a network of lines from London's Waterloo Station and principally served England's southern counties of Surrey, Hampshire, Dorset and Devon. The LSWR became a constituent of the 'Southern Railway' on the grouping of Britain's railways in 1923, which later became the Southern Region of 'British Railways' on nationalisation of the private railway companies in 1948. Since the privatisation of Britain's railways in 1996, train services running over the majority of the remaining former LSWR territory are today operated by 'South West Trains', still from London's Waterloo Station.
